Issue 7: Animal Protection

Image PROJECT RUN IN 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09

This magazine is the final product of a school partnership that was established by three European secondary schools: IES Aguas Vivas (Spain), Radu cel Mare (Romania) and Skals Efterskole (Denmark). The WebQuests (WQ) were our main methodological tool and we used eTwinning as the space to share material and establish communication across borders.  This final product, our e-magazine Double-e, was created by the students of the three participating schools. The work amongst our colleagues and partners was developed giving priority to cooperative work amongst the three institutions, a methodology that was also followed by our students. We set up the working lines and dynamics for the project on three stages:

1) STAGE 1: Our students had to find information on a series of cross-curricular topics using Webquests (guided searches online) that had been previously designed by the participating teachers. The students in each school worked in five different teams. As groups, they researched on three cross-curricular topics. They followed the steps of three WebQuests the teachers had designed and published in www.edebedigital.com/proyectos/8555 beforehand. These WQs dealt with the following cross-curricular topics on the first year of our project: Getting to Know Each Other, Immigration and Street Children, and Healthy Eating Habits. On the second year the topics were "Recycling and Saving Energy" and "Consumer Education". On the third and final year of the project the topics were: "Healthy and Risk-Taking Habits" and "Animal Protection".Students searched for information on these topics using the Internet as their main tool.  At the end of each WQ, they  created some digital material to be shared in our common webspace eTwinning.

2) STAGE 2: Students  shared their work in their webspace in eTwinning. Each school  put the resulting material from the WQ in their school folders in eTwinning in http://twinspace.etwinning.net/launcher.cfm?lang=en&cid=8756. Within these folders, there were files (presentations, word documents, audio documents, pdf.docs…) with the students’ work. After each team had submitted their work in their school folders, the students from each participating school  analysed the material using the chatroom or the e-mail in eTwinning.

3) STAGE 3: Taking into account all the information they had previously researched, students took the role of journalists and created this online magazine called like our project Double-e: e-magazine on European issues using Joomla!. This online magazine can be seen in: www.jccm.es/edu/ies/aguasvivas/emagazine . Three issues of the online magazine were published during the school year 2006-2007. On 2007-08, two more editions were be published. Again, two issues were published in the accademic year 2008-09. The most recently published issue can be seen as you click on the link. If you want to have a look at the back issues, you can click in the button “Back Issues” on the magazine menu (left-hand side of the page). The online magazine contains articles, interviews, pastimes, the Big Quiz, events, and a photo gallery. Being a digital webzine, it also includes all those materials shared in eTwinning such as presentations, audios and videos.
